Navigating the Voiceover Industry Together: A Mother-Daughter Duo’s Journey.

Meet Verity and her mother Ingrid, a unique duo challenging norms and excelling in the competitive realm of voice acting. Verity, a rising star in the voiceover industry at just 16, has been making waves with her talent and passion for the craft from a young age.  Despite her mother’s background in broadcasting and audio, Verity has taken the reins of her career, exploring different facets of voice work that resonate with her.

From Commercials to Corporate work, Animation to Games. Verity’s dedication to learn, grow, and pursue projects that excite her showcases a level of independence and drive that sets her apart in the field. The challenges of working in the voiceover sector are not lost on this duo. From the competitive nature of the field to the constant need for self-improvement and adaptation, both mother and daughter navigate these hurdles together.

“Our relationship is built on a foundation of mutual respect and understanding, where I strive to provide guidance and assistance while empowering Verity to shape her own narrative in the industry”

“Momager is a title I loath as it suggests negative connotations. However, I suppose it’s an easy label to be given as the supporting role that some might say is rather unique but not unheard of. In the intricate world of voiceover work, witnessing Verity’s growth and success in the sector has been a source of immense pride and inspiration and has also been a direct result of Verity’s sheer determination and hard work”.

“Verity’s unwavering dedication to honing her craft, pursuing projects that ignite her creativity, and embracing new opportunities reflects a maturity and drive beyond her years”.

“It’s about being a parent first”.

“Ensuring a safe environment, protecting mental wellbeing and saying no to ensure balance and enjoyment is easy when it’s your child driving their journey. It’s hard enough for both children and parents to navigate the pressures of todays world. The last thing thats needed is added pressure of any kind”.

“This is a realm full of pushy parents and those that say yes to every little job and will knowingly undersell their child’s time and talents for buttons. But beware, having witnessed such dynamics, and desperation confirms these bad business decisions and relationships never turn out well”.

“Just call me Verity’s Mum, that’s a title I really enjoy”.

“As a Momager, if you insist on using that term, my role in Verity’s career extends beyond mere support; it encompasses a myriad of responsibilities, from managing administrative tasks to coordinating studio bookings, Audio editor and serving as a trusted advisor for her ideas and aspirations”.

I’m also the person who reminds her to do her chores. Clean your room, put your clothes away, get the homework done….oh I definitely nag. I nag mostly about going out and being a kid. It’s important to go out to have fun with friends, be a kid, get into scrapes”.

“Working in an adult environment and studying alongside adults means Verity has superb communication skills and is comfortable holding her own in very grown up business situations. However there is plenty of time to be a grown up and thats what I gatekeep the most”.

“My advice to others in this position….let kids be kids”.

“Most people I know look back at their childhood and remember the fun they had, responsibility free and packed with adventures. What more could you possibly want for your child than fun, love and encouragement”?

“Well these adventures, granted of a different kind have empowered a shy and quiet child who faced severe bullying about her creative skills, step into the light and enjoy being part of a supportive VO community”.

“A community that has been as supportive as her own family and helped Verity achieve what she has to date. Eventually I’ll be handing the reigns fully over to Verity and I’ll be excited to follow her path. To be able to book a holiday without mics and cables and of course remain incredibly proud”.
