So how can I best describe Radio & TV Imaging and Promo without doing it an injustice.
It’s not easy this one.
If I described it as the Voice you hear on the radio that reminds you which station you are listening to, often the recorded voice that announces its time for the news or weather, the voice that’s not the presenter and that features on the radio station or TV channel around the clock – well that’s going some way close to describing what it is but, thats not giving it it’s due worth.
What I really need to say is that when a voice is chosen to be the Radio or TV stations Brand Identity. It’s a huge privilege and often very lucrative. Station Imaging and promo can often be the most inventive audio editing there is. Often the incredible audio mixing talents of the editors and producers creating these short and concise audio bites can be a very exact and exciting to lend your voice to.
It’s true there are few people who get to the heights of being a longterm Imaging voice of a station as when one is chosen they are usually on the station for a long time and don’t usually change, such is the synonymous strength and sound created for the station.
When I recorded my fist Imaging work it was for the likes of Smash Hits Radio, Kiss FM and Big City Radio stations. Of course in the non digital days you could be the voice of a few locations as their remit didn’t tend to overlap all that much, but today well things have changed.
Now, as digital and Internet radio expand and local stations die and network output is the template for most large radio brands, the opportunities in the UK alone have almost disappeared yet globally I feel the world has opened up to international voices.
So, if you are thinking of adding an international voice to your programme or station, would like to hear more of the imaging and promo work I’ve done from the BBC to Commercial stations both in the UK, Australia and US please get in touch and lets schedule a chat
From Country, Hot AC, to Rock and Speech to Sport. I’ve recorded it all when it comes to being the Imaging and promo voice of a station so lets talk.
”I've worked with the legendary Ingrid for many years now and have to say she defines the term 'true pro' - whether it's as a presenter, a show contributor, a station imaging voice or commercial VO - she can do it all with a smile. That delightful North East lilt is fully adjustable too - she can switch it on and off at will to either sound like a true local or neutral British accent.
